“The Devil appeared behind me. Dressed in an all black suit. A black hat, the kind the gangsters used to wear. I couldn’t see his face, but he was checking a time piece. The Devil had read my mind. How long was I to wait here Dirty and disheveled. Sitting around this burnt out campfire in Hell. My time was up and I needed to either surrender to him completely or get the fuck out.”A constant battle, give in. Remain a drug addict waiting for my body to finally give out, kill myself or get over my own self pity and get clean. I chose the later. In these pages lie the charred memories of my journey out of the Underworld...The book is divided into three parts. The first is where the novella, "Hi, Have You Met Me" left off. Where my so called fun, party time ended and turned into a full blown drug addiction. To the tune of $800 a week on narcotics and alcohol. The stories are chopped up into segments, leaving the reader to piece it together, as one would when remembering a blurred existence. The second part is of my detox. It's scattered and hard to read, which is it's purpose. Full of incomplete sentences and meandering thoughts, in order to reflect how I felt at the time. The third documents the year I spent figuring myself out after not being clean for 13 years. My journey through arrested development, and then eventually finding myself. Content aside, this section is the easiest read. It's categorized as creative non-fiction because I cannot claim full truth, absolute fact to any of it. These are memories. Memories of dark times manipulated and lost by drug and drink. It is my greatest hope that something positive can be taken away from these pages by the reader. Wether they be an addict, in recovery or know someone who suffers from addiction. To show that there is a way out. And if you're one of the fortunate souls not plagued by such affliction, that you can derive some semblance of entertainment from these pages. At least a good read. Also a note to the reader, I edited the book myself. Spending hours and hours pouring over the pages, making sure they were just right. I tried using multiple editors, only to find that my work was candy-coated and dumbed down every time. Made more digestible. But, Dear Reader, I wanted to give you something pure and raw. Only the truth, untouched, exactly as it should be served. The format for ebooks is limited, so while I would have liked to have text scrambled about the page in some sections, that was not possible. That format can only be found in the hard copy. Addiction is a ruthless bitch, one that cannot be put down easily. In these pages you will see just how much of one's strength must be tried and called upon to recover their true self, clean and intact.
